The Deadly Scotch

Mr El and Mr Lay went into a bar and each ordered a scotch on the rocks. Unbeknown to them, they both got glasses containing poison. Mr El downed his quickly and proceeded to gab for an hour while Mr Lay drank his slowly. Later, Mr Lay died, but Mr El didn't. Why?

‘How much will one cost?’ asked the customer in a hardware store.

‘Twenty cents,’ replied the clerk.

‘And how much will twelve cost?’

‘Forty cents.’

‘Okay. I'll take nine hundred and twelve.’

‘Fine. That will be sixty cents.’
