About
the book
(from
the Foreword by Andrew Robson)
Do you play bridge? Do you enjoy solving ingenious brain-teasers? If, like
myself, you can answer ‘Yes’ to these questions, More Hocus-Pocus is
the book for you.
With his first venture into the world of bridge books, Erwin Brecher struck
on the brilliant idea of combining each deal with a non-bridge brain-teaser.
He did this superbly and I remember many successive sleepless nights. As if
not being able to put the book down was not bad enough, I then had the
problem of trying to get some sleep when all my head could focus on was how
on earth I had enough information to be able to solve some perplexing
mind-bender!
The sequel continues the successful ‘two books for the price of one’
formula, and this time Erwin has joined forces with the talented bridge
writer Julian Pottage. Julian has contributed most of the bridge problems
from his sizeable collection, and Erwin has contributed the IQ Test and most
of the puzzles and anecdotes.
What I particularly like about both the puzzles and the bridge problems is
that if you cannot see the answer, you will usually kick yourself when you
find it. In most cases, you do not need any in-depth technical know-how. You
simply need to apply a bit of lateral thinking, a good deal of common sense,
and perhaps a little inspiration.
Enjoy!
